Privacy Policy

What we collect
To run the service, we collect and store:
- Email address — to send you alerts and account-related messages
- Campground and site selections, date preferences, alert mode — to know what to monitor for you
- Firebase user ID if you sign in (shared sign-in with CampsiteCheckins.com and ParkCheckins.com)
- Stripe customer ID and subscription status if you subscribe to Pro
- Web logs from our hosting provider (IP address, user agent, request timing) for security and debugging — kept ~30 days
How we use it
- Check campsite availability on your behalf at your selected campgrounds
- Send you email alerts when availability changes
- Process subscription payments via Stripe
- Diagnose problems and improve the service
What we don't do
- We don't sell your email or alert data to anyone
- We don't send marketing emails — only alert notifications and account messages
- We don't make reservations on your behalf — when an alert fires, you go book directly through Recreation.gov or ReserveAmerica
Third-party services
We use a small number of third parties, each scoped to a specific job:
- Firebase Authentication (Google) — sign-in if you use it. Firebase's own privacy policy applies to that data.
- Stripe — payment processing if you subscribe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe's privacy policy.
- Recreation.gov (RIDB) and ReserveAmerica — public reservation systems we query on your behalf to check availability. Your alert data is not sent to them; we just look up campground availability.
- Google Analytics — anonymized usage stats (page views, navigation patterns). Configured to anonymize IP and not share data with Google's ad network. More about GA data use.
- SMTP email provider — to deliver alert emails to your inbox.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies for two things:
- Firebase authentication (so you stay signed in across visits)
- Google Analytics (anonymized usage stats)
We don't use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.
Email communications
You'll receive emails strictly related to your alerts:
- Availability alerts when openings appear
- Alert confirmation when you create one
- Free-tier trial expiry notices (days 1, 2, 3)
- Subscription receipts (sent by Stripe)
- Coverage-request fulfillment notices, when you request a campground we don't yet support
Every alert email includes an unsubscribe link that deactivates the alert.
Data retention and deletion
Active alert data is retained while your alert is active. When an alert is cancelled or expires, we keep the record for 90 days (for reactivation/lookups), then delete it. Availability snapshots tied to sites you've alerted on are kept up to 60 days for diagnostic purposes.
You can delete your entire account and all associated data at any time from the Preferences page. Deletion removes:
- Your User record (email, Firebase ID, Stripe customer ID, subscription state, tier)
- All your alerts and alert notifications
- All availability snapshots tied to sites only you had alerts on
- Any pending coverage requests under your email
If you have an active Pro subscription when you delete your account, the subscription is cancelled at the same time. Stripe retains payment records for compliance regardless.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
You may:
- Access — request a copy of all the data we have about you. Email support@campgroundalerts.com from the address tied to your account.
- Correct — update or fix any data via your Preferences page or by emailing us.
- Delete — remove your account and all data via Preferences.
- Object to processing — opt out of analytics or stop using the service.
Children
This service is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the “Last updated” date and post the new version here. For material changes that affect existing customers, we'll email subscribers 30 days before the change takes effect.
